Dumbbell Floor Press (Tricep Focus)
This floor press keeps the elbows close to shift more work to the triceps. Main target: triceps. Starting point: 3 × 8–12 repetitions.
Instructions
Setup
- Prepare and inspect the required equipment (dumbbell) and clear enough space for the full movement and safe exit.
- For Dumbbell Floor Press (Tricep Focus), keep the implement, grip, support and direction shown by the name and, when available, the image. If that setup is unavailable, choose an offered alternative instead of improvising another exercise.
- Lie on the floor with knees bent. Hold the dumbbells parallel to the torso, palms facing inward and elbows close to your sides.
Execution
- Let the upper arms touch the floor softly, pause, then press both dumbbells straight up without opening the elbows.
Range, tempo and breathing
- Perform 3 × 8–12 repetitions. Lower for about 2–3 seconds, change direction without bouncing and lift in 1–2 seconds unless the plan sets another tempo.
- Brace before the effort. Exhale through the controlled lifting or shortening phase and inhale during the return without losing position.
Common mistakes and prevention
- Do not rotate the palms forward, flare the elbows or let the dumbbells drift toward the face. Use less weight and keep the forearms vertical.
Regression and progression
- Use lighter dumbbells or press one arm at a time while the other rests safely on the floor.
- Add load only while the elbows stay close; then add a brief pause with the upper arms on the floor.
Stop signals
- Stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness, dizziness, chest pain, unusual shortness of breath or loss of control. Swap the exercise if a comfortable, controlled version is not available.
