Heavy Bag Straight Punches
Throw straight punches into a heavy bag and return each hand to guard. Main target: shoulders. Also working: chest, triceps, abdominals, obliques. Starting point: 4 × 30–120 seconds with clean, repeatable repetitions.
Instructions
Setup
- Inspect the machine and all pins, pads or stops. Choose a conservative first load and make sure you can leave the position safely.
- For Heavy Bag Straight Punches, keep the implement, grip, support and direction shown by the name and, when available, the image. If that setup is unavailable, choose an offered alternative instead of improvising another exercise.
- Wear hand protection, take a balanced guard and stand just inside full punching reach.
Execution
- Extend one punch at a time, rotate from the floor and bring the hand immediately back to the face.
- Build the position first, then start the timer. End the set when the position changes, even if time remains.
Range, tempo and breathing
- Work for 4 × 30–120 seconds with clean, repeatable repetitions. Slow down or end the set as soon as the movement path changes.
- Keep breathing continuously behind a steady brace. Do not hold the breath to extend the timer.
Common mistakes and prevention
- Do not lock the elbow, drop the opposite hand or crowd the swinging bag. Slow down and restore distance.
Regression and progression
- Shorten the hold, reduce the lever or use more support while keeping the same position.
- Add a few seconds only after the full set stays steady; then use a slightly longer lever.
Stop signals
- Stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness, dizziness, chest pain, unusual shortness of breath or loss of control. Swap the exercise if a comfortable, controlled version is not available.
