Inverted Sit-up
This advanced sit-up uses a tilting inversion table and trains the abdominals through controlled trunk flexion. Main target: abdominals. Starting point: 3 × 8–15 repetitions.
Instructions
Setup
- Inspect the machine and all pins, pads or stops. Choose a conservative first load and make sure you can leave the position safely.
- For Inverted Sit-up, keep the implement, grip, support and direction shown by the name and, when available, the image. If that setup is unavailable, choose an offered alternative instead of improvising another exercise.
- Lock the ankles and lower legs exactly as the manufacturer specifies. Check the lock, stable entry and exit, then begin at a mild angle with arms across the chest.
Execution
- Curl the trunk only through a pain-free range, pause with control, then lower slowly without hanging from the restraints.
Range, tempo and breathing
- Perform 3 × 8–15 repetitions. Lower for about 2–3 seconds, change direction without bouncing and lift in 1–2 seconds unless the plan sets another tempo.
- Brace before the effort. Exhale through the controlled lifting or shortening phase and inhale during the return without losing position.
Common mistakes and prevention
- Do not start steep, pull the head, swing, or rush the dismount. Reduce the angle and range, and use assistance for entry or exit when needed.
Regression and progression
- Use a smaller incline, shorter range and arms crossed over the chest.
- Increase the incline gradually, then move the arms overhead; add only a small external load after both remain controlled.
Stop signals
- Stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness, dizziness, chest pain, unusual shortness of breath or loss of control. Swap the exercise if a comfortable, controlled version is not available.
