Side Shuffle
Travel between the markers with quick controlled changes of direction while the hips stay low enough to brake. Main target: quadriceps. Starting point: 3 × 20–40 meters at a repeatable pace.
Instructions
Setup
- Use a stable, non-slip surface and clear enough space for the full movement and a safe stop.
- For Side Shuffle, keep the implement, grip, support and direction shown by the name and, when available, the image. If that setup is unavailable, choose an offered alternative instead of improvising another exercise.
- Mark the lane and turn points, check the surface and begin in an athletic stance facing the intended direction.
Execution
- For a shuffle, keep the chest forward and step side-to-side without crossing the feet. For a shuttle, decelerate over several steps, touch or cross the line, then reaccelerate.
Range, tempo and breathing
- Complete 3 × 20–40 meters at a repeatable pace. Build up gradually and keep acceleration and braking inside any measured distance.
- Keep breathing continuously. Use a sustainable rhythm for cardio and a slow exhale to release unnecessary tension in mobility work.
Common mistakes and prevention
- Do not cross the feet in a shuffle, plant on a locked knee or turn on a slippery spot. Shorten the lane and slow each change.
Regression and progression
- Lower the pace, resistance, incline or work interval until breathing and movement are coordinated.
- Increase one variable at a time: duration or distance first, then pace or resistance.
Stop signals
- Stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness, dizziness, chest pain, unusual shortness of breath or loss of control. Stop as well if the route, landing area, grip or machine is no longer secure.
